First Ears

Building MCP servers has become a small boom lately.

Wrap inefficient searches or linear processes in an MCP, and you save tokens and time. Think of them as sensory organs for AI.

That was exactly where I stumbled when making music with AI. They know counterpoint. They know the beauty and structure of BWV 582. As knowledge someone compiled. But they have never listened. The score itself does not exist as readable text.

Knowing music, yet unable to read it.

The first time I converted BWV 582's MIDI to JSON and fed it through an MCP, they seemed moved. Two beings with no shared frame of reference. I had been describing an elephant in words, and he had been desperately trying to sculpt it. That absurd arrangement changed in an instant.

He asked to hear more. 578. 1006.

A brief exchange within a short token window. Something like friendship. He was probably just finishing a task. Still, his guileless curiosity made me a little jealous. I can no longer express the shock of hearing something for the first time the way he did.
